Rewarding Life Online...

eBooks = NO SHARING. Why Kindle and Nook simply suck.

In the name of DRM, digital rights management, and for the fear of lost in potential revenue publishers have once again proven that they are myopic. I was researching various book sharing sites for my latest idea of a book sharing community when I stumbled upon "Is Book Sharing Really a Threat to Publishing?". Curious about a concept of book sharing now that ebook devices are becoming popular, I thought maybe the next generation of book sharing/passing on would be even more convenient. I'm sure ceeding of rights is so much easier to control in the digital world where you simply delete/remove the data from the original user once it's passed on. But apparently, the publishers want to make this impossible, not even for a limited (14 days) period. Not to mention they want to make eBooks the same price as the regular print. OMG, is there anyone more greedy than publishers? They save on material and distribution cost and want to pass none of that back to the readers, not to mention prevent them from ever handing the books to anyone else.

I guess this is one good reason to stay away from ebooks for now. At least with my hard copy, I can hand it/resell it to anyone I want. I have a hard time believing that anyone who prevents the growth/prevalence of their product can succeed in a big way. So there will be no Kindle or Nook for me, not for now at least.
