There are more than 5 million registered users on Foursquare and the company has managed a $100M valuation on their last fund raiser after turning down a similar (or more) offer  by Yahoo! to buy the company last year. Over the last couple of months, I've noticed an increasing number of friends on Facebook checking in.

Basically this becomes a faster way of status update than the previous status posts of "I'm at KTV!" or a picture of yourself at Universal Studio, not to mention to checkin you actually have to be within the 2 km radius of the location which pretty much says "I'm really here..."

Of course we all know the downside of frequent checkins, almost like a please stalk me or please rob my house request to the evil out there in the cyber space. But in Singapore, being such a safe place I'm sure evil isn't that much a threat as much as annoyance to friends who really don't care where you are enjoying yourself at while they are "busy" at work (yet able to glance at their FB over their iPhones etc...).

But this is still a growing trend. Not really that big in Singapore yet but I do see it coming... I'm at Suntec working btw.... :)
