Where am I on the map? (My Approach to Social Media)

As a consumer strategist for online media, I must first clarify there's no one way of doing social media marketing or setting up accounts on social sites. You can do things conventionally, unconventionally and it's really up to you. So of these strategies work and some of them are a little more clumsy, that's why I have a job in the market. Here, I'm just sharing what I do with my blog, twitter and Facebook so that you get an idea of what I mean by an integrated social media strategy.

Basically what made Obama's online campaign so successful? Is it the diverse amount of tools and sites he used? Or is it the man himself who is so charming? Or is his opponent too dumb at online campaigns? Well, it's a combination of all. Joe Rospar, created an integrated plan for the Obama administration to move in a single strong voice without having Obama, the man himself, answering to every single profile, imagine if he did he would never had time to travel to the physical rallies and appear on TV.

So how can you do that? In my other article I mentioned about creating a single virtual name/brand, which is the first thing you'll have to decide. For me, it's Mingspot, named after my blog. So I'm www.facebook.com/mingspot, www.twitter.com/mingspot. Only on Linkedin I'm www.linkedin.com/ngmingliang, which is my name anyway and helps me get 1st spot on google search so I'm not about to change it.

Now my blog has a feed that automatically summarises the title and creates a shorten url that goes to my Twitter. And my Twitter feeds into my facebook status. The automation is tiered by the type of content which I intend to put on each of these platform.

Starting with the end of the chain which is my Facebook. It is communication with all my friends and people I know personally and so it is at the end of the chain. Nothing I type on Facebook feeds backward to a public domain cos that's not where I want it to be. Only friends should see my Facebook messages.

My blog is a longer version of ideas and thoughts and so it has a summary that goes into my Twitter and my Twitter is as much as possible a consolidation of all my public opinions and content. Even URLs that I recommend and some random ideas/messages that I intend for the larger audience, like looking for programmers etc.

Where then is linkedin? Basically I view linkedin as a professional connection, less personal but necessary. It's isolated with reference to my blog if someone should like to know more about me and what I do.

So there you have it... There you have it. My little map of me on Twitter, Facebook, Linkedin and this blog. :) Planning a major consumer related event? or can't seem to find or fit the right tools for the job? Leave me a message if you'll like my 2 cents worth.

Hi Bro

Glad to see you in BNI. Enjoy reading your blogspot but I am quite lost. If you have time, can you share with me what you are trying to say here in simple terms. :D
